Senior / Principal Product Manager - HR & Payroll Platform

The company is building digital products that help businesses simplify HR and payroll operations, improve employee experiences and manage increasingly complex workforce needs.

We are looking for an experienced Senior / Principal Product Manager – HR & Payroll platform to work closely with the client’s product, engineering and business teams and leadhigh-impact initiatives across its payroll technology platform.

We are looking for an experienced Senior / Principal Product Manager who is passionate about building technology products that solve complex customer and business problems

You will play a critical leadership role in shaping the strategy, development and evolution of high-impact payroll products, translating customer and business needs into scalable digital capabilities.

The role involves owning the product lifecycle end-to-end, from discovery and product definition through software development, launch and continuous improvement.

You will work closely with software engineering, design and business teams to define product requirements, evaluate technical and product trade-offs, prioritise investments and ensure successful delivery.

This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong product judgement, strategic thinking, technical understanding and the ability to influence stakeholders across product, engineering and business teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end lifecycle of one or more high-impact digital payroll products, from discovery and product definition through development, launch and continuous improvement.
  • Define and execute product strategy, roadmaps and priorities aligned with customer needs and business objectives.
  • Translate complex customer, operational and business requirements into clear product requirements and scalable technology capabilities.
  • Work closely with software engineering and design teams to define solutions, evaluate technical feasibility, manage trade-offs and deliver high-quality software products.
  • Lead the definition and prioritisation of product requirements, user journeys, workflows and platform capabilities.
  • Understand the capabilities, constraints and dependencies of the underlying technology platform and incorporate these into product strategy and prioritisation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve product scalability, reliability, automation and operational efficiency as customer needs and transaction volumes grow.
  • Shape the development of APIs, integrations and data flows required to connect payroll with internal and external systems.
  • Lead product discovery using customer research, product analytics, market evidence and experimentation to identify and validate opportunities.
  • Define and track product KPIs covering adoption, customer outcomes, product performance and business impact.
  • Analyse product usage and performance data to identify improvement opportunities and guide investment decisions.
  • Conduct market and competitive analysis across payroll, HR technology and related software categories.
  • Collaborate with engineering, design, sales, marketing, operations and customer-facing teams to align priorities and drive execution.
  • Manage dependencies and trade-offs across multiple teams, systems and product areas.
  • Support and mentor product team members and contribute to improving product management practices across the organisation.
  • Influence senior stakeholders and contribute to the long-term product and technology direction of the payroll platform.

Requirements

  • 8-10+ years of product management experience, with a strong track record of building and scaling B2B digital or software products.
  • Experience in HR, payroll, fintech or workforce technology is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience owning software products throughout the product lifecycle, from discovery and requirements definition through development, launch and optimisation.
  • Strong experience working closely with software engineering and design teams to deliver complex technology products.
  • Good understanding of software product development, including APIs, system integrations, data flows and platform dependencies.
  • Ability to translate complex customer and business requirements into clear product and technology requirements.
  • Experience making product decisions involving technical feasibility, scalability, customer experience and commercial priorities.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience using product, customer and business data to make decisions and measure outcomes.
  • Experience defining product strategy, roadmaps, priorities and success metrics.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, including the ability to influence senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to lead complex initiatives involving multiple teams, systems and dependencies.
  • Ability to operate independently, manage ambiguity and make informed decisions in a fast-paced technology environment.
  • Strong customer orientation with the ability to understand complex workflows and turn them into simple, scalable digital product experiences.

About the engagement

This role will work closely with the client organisation and its leadership team, with responsibility for significant areas of the payroll product and technology strategy.

The successful candidate will be engaged through our organisation while operating as an integrated member of the client’s product and technology team.
